How a mock interview works
A mock interview is a voice call with an AI interviewer in your browser. It asks questions for your role, listens to your spoken answers and asks follow-ups, like a real interviewer would. When it ends you get a written report: what worked, what to fix, and a model answer for every question.
Open Mock interviews in the web app sidebar. The page has five tabs:
| Tab | Use it to |
|---|---|
| Overview | See your practice minutes, sessions and latest result, and jump into a round. |
| Practise a skill | Set up a full interview: format, role, level, difficulty and length. |
| Rounds | Short themed rounds, such as an HR round or salary talk. |
| Target a company | Rehearse the loop a specific company runs for your role. |
| History | Every past mock interview, your score trend and each report. |
Start a mock interview
-
Choose the format
On Practise a skill, pick Technical (concepts and trade-offs), Behavioral (STAR stories and competencies), Coding (a live code editor where you write, run and test code) or System Design.
-
Set the role, level and difficulty
Choose your Domain (more than 80, from Frontend Development to Investment Banking), your Seniority Level from Intern to Director, and a Difficulty: Easy for fundamentals, Mid for probing follow-ups, Hard for edge cases and bar-raiser depth.
-
Pick the length and feedback mode
Sessions run from 5 to 60 minutes. Coaching (Turn) gives you a short note after each answer, which is best while you are learning. Realistic (End) saves all feedback for the final report, closest to a real panel.
-
Add your resume or the job description (optional)
Turn on Use my resume, list your key technologies, or paste the job description. Questions then centre on your experience and the role.
-
Test your microphone and start
Click Test microphone. It takes 6 seconds and nothing is recorded. Then click Start Interview, allow the microphone in your browser, and answer out loud.
Practise by round
Rounds are short voice interviews with the right kind of interviewer for one situation: HR round, Salary & offers, Tough moments, Behavioral (STAR), Manager round, Client round and more. Each card lists questions you may hear.
Open a round to choose its length (5, 10 or 15 minutes), the feedback style (Coach me after each answer or Real interview, with feedback at the end), and optionally your role and the company. Then click Start the round.
Target a company
Got a real interview coming up? On Target a company, enter the company, your role and level, and optionally the job description. HintCall researches how that company interviews for your role (its rounds, question patterns and interviewers) so you can rehearse the whole loop. The research is free; you pay the usual 1 credit per minute only while you are interviewing.
Read your report
Every mock interview ends with a report under History. At the top you see the overall result, your top strength and the one thing to focus next.
Further down:
- Competency breakdown: how you did on each skill the interview tested.
- Delivery: filler words, words per minute and how confident you sounded.
- Strengths and Areas to improve, each with concrete points.
- Question-by-question breakdown: scores for relevance, content, structure, specificity, clarity and conciseness, your STAR structure, feedback on situation, behaviour and impact, and a Model answer.
Click Practise this question again under any question to retry just that one.
Warm-up call in the desktop app
The desktop app has its own practice: ⋯ → Warm-up call. An AI interviewer asks real questions from your resume and role in your browser, and you press Go live in HintCall to see answers appear, exactly like a real call. It uses no minutes, so it is the best way to try the desktop app before your first real interview. Add your resume in Call prep first.
What it costs
Mock interviews use 1 credit per minute, from start to end. End any time and pay only for the time used. Sessions where we hear no answer from you are not charged. The setup page shows the estimated cost before you start.
Unlimited plans include a monthly allowance of mock interview time. See Plans and credits.
