About you

Your current role, in plain words.

A number is enough.

The area you are known for.

Specific, ideally with a number.

One step from your past that explains your path.

The job title, as in the posting.

Connect your goal to their need.

Length

Your introduction

0 words, about 0 seconds out loud

How to use it

4 steps, a few minutes

  1. Step 1:

Fill in the prompts in plain words; short phrases work best.

  2. Step 2:

    Pick a length: 30, 60 or 90 seconds.

  3. Step 3:

Read the script out loud and change any phrase that does not sound like you.

  4. Step 4:

Copy it and practise until you can say it without reading.

Why present, past, future works

Interviewers ask this first to hear how you summarise yourself. A clear structure shows you know what you offer and why you are in the room. Starting with the present grounds the answer; the past explains your path; the future points straight at their job.

A 60-second example

I am a backend engineer at a fintech startup with four years of experience, mostly building payment and billing services. Recently I cut failed payments by a third by adding smart retries. I started in QA, which is why I care so much about testing. Now I am looking for a senior role on a payments platform team, because I want to own a product area end to end, and your team is rebuilding billing this year.

What to leave out

  • Your whole CV in order.
  • Reasons you are unhappy in your current job.
  • Anything you cannot back up if they ask a follow-up.

Questions about this tool

Something missing? Email support@hintcall.com.

How long should "tell me about yourself" be?

About 60 seconds for most interviews: long enough to give a clear picture, short enough to leave time for questions. Use the 30-second version for quick screens and the 90-second version for a senior or panel round.

What order should I use?

Present, past, future: what you do now, the earlier step that explains it, and why this role is the natural next move. It is easy to follow and ends on the job you want.

Should I include personal details?

Keep it professional. A short line about what drives you is fine, but skip age, family and hobbies unless they connect directly to the role.

Is my text saved?

No. The builder works only in your browser; nothing is stored or sent.
