Open Call prep
Call prep is everything the AI needs before you go live: your resume, this call, and how you want it to answer. Open it from the toolbar with ⋯ → Call prep (or ⌘/CtrlK, then Call prep).
The list on the left has three groups. Required: Your resume and This call. Optional: Voice. Advanced: About you, Behavioral stories, Coding and Sound check. A tick appears next to each part you have filled in, and the badge in the top right reads Ready to go live when the required parts are done.
Your resume
Your resume is required for every interview. The AI answers as you, from what is in it; everything else only fills gaps. Upload it, then check that it reads Parsed and ready with a word count.
Open What the AI reads from your resume to see exactly what was picked up. If something is missing, use Replace with a cleaner file.

-
Interview category and specific domain
Pick the field first, which unlocks the domain list. There are 25 categories, from Software Development and Data Science to Healthcare, Banking, Legal, Government and Hospitality, each with specific domains. The AI uses the domain for the right terms and depth.
-
Interview language
The language your interview is in. Speech is transcribed in this language and every answer comes back in it.
-
Job description (optional)
Paste the job description, up to 4,000 characters. Answers then speak the role's language and put its tools first.
-
Answer beyond my resume
On (recommended), every question gets a confident, realistic answer about your work, even when your resume does not list that detail. Your employers, job titles and dates always stay as on your resume. Off, specific work sticks to what your resume shows.
-
Your instructions (optional)
Up to 1,000 characters on what to emphasise, what to avoid, or who the interviewer is. Click Preview this to see an answer written with your instructions and settings.
Voice: length, detail and tone
Voice shapes spoken answers. Screen snaps and code follow the format the question needs.
| Setting | Options |
|---|---|
| Style | Concise (direct, no filler), Balanced (answer plus brief support) or Detailed (examples and depth). |
| Length | Short, about 2 to 4 sentences (around 20 seconds to say), Medium, 4 to 8, or Long, 8 to 14. Want even shorter? Write "two lines only" in Your instructions. |
| Tone | Formal, professional or conversational. |
Preview an answer on the right writes an example with your current settings for questions such as "Tell me about yourself" or "Process vs thread". Change a setting and it updates.
Advanced options
More answer options
- STAR structure for behavioral answers: Situation, Task, Action, Result for "tell me about a time" questions.
- Include metrics and numbers: quantifies impact where your resume or achievements give real figures.
- Auto-answer: answers by itself when a question lands. Pressing Answer yourself stays the fastest.
- Hear my side: transcribes what you say, so follow-up answers build on it and stay consistent. It is never used as a question. Works in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese interviews; headphones give the cleanest result.
- Recap after each interview: when you finish, a summary of what was covered, what they dug into, what you told them and likely next-round questions.
About you
Fills gaps the resume does not cover: full name, current and target role, target company, years of experience, industry, headline skills and key achievements. Under Questions interviewers ask you, answer the ones that apply (notice period, salary, visa) and the AI uses your exact answers instead of guessing.
Prepared answers and past rounds
Prepared answers are answers you want to give to questions you expect. When the interviewer asks one, the answer on screen is built on yours. Remembers past rounds keeps a short summary of each interview (company, topics, what you said), so your answers stay consistent in the next round. You can edit or clear it.
Behavioral stories and coding language
Add a story bank of real examples for "tell me about a time" answers. Set a Preferred coding language (35 languages); it is used only when a coding question does not name one.
Sound check
HintCall hears your interviewer through your computer's sound, not your microphone. Run the sound check before every important interview.
-
Play a sound
Anything on the computer works: a YouTube video, or your meeting app's speaker test.
-
Click Test meeting audio
A meter shows what the app hears while it listens.
-
Read the result
We can hear your computer's audio means the interview will be captured the same way; keep the meeting on the same speaker or headset. We can't hear anything comes with fixes for your computer. See Troubleshooting.
Where it is saved
Click Save. Call prep is saved to your HintCall account, so it comes back after a reinstall, an update or on another computer.
If you choose Keep on this device only for interview history (⋯ → Preferences → Advanced), nothing from Call prep is stored on our servers; it stays on that computer. Reset profile clears it all and starts again.
